Gemini and the US NGO at the AAS 243 Meeting

December 11, 2023

The International Gemini Observatory and the US National Gemini Office (US NGO) will host two splinter sessions at the upcoming AAS Winter meeting in New Orleans (7–11 January 2024). The first session, Introduction to Gemini Observatory in the 2020s: How to Propose for Time and Complete your Program, will have a program focused on providing resources for Gemini users — especially new or prospective Gemini users — regarding Gemini’s capabilities, proposal process, observing queue system, data reduction software, and/or user support system. The second session, The Present and Future of Exoplanet Science with the Gemini Observatory, will highlight specific areas of exoplanet science where the Gemini telescopes and instrumentation have made significant contributions, such as exoplanet detection and characterization. The meeting program includes four invited talks and a final presentation of future opportunities/instrumentation for exoplanet science at Gemini Observatory.

There will also be opportunities to meet with Gemini/NOIRLab staff in the exhibit hall at the NOIRLab booth throughout the meeting. If you have Gemini data, an active observing program, or even a vague idea for a project, visit the booth any time during exhibit hall hours to chat with our staff. Appointments can also be made via email to david.jones@noirlab.edu or at the booth during the meeting. Stop by the booth to pick up and play the Gemini Card Game or get your copy of the new edition of the Gemini Capabilities brochure, among other items while supplies last. For a full list of Gemini-related talks and events, please visit our website.
